From Lots of Friends, To Hardly Any

Growing up in a city so vibrant, with lots of things to do, from nightlife culture to simply hanging out with my friends to a solo life. My mom always told me, once you grow older, your friend list grows shorter; she wasn’t lying. As we know, friends come and go. Although I walk a solo life these days, I’m still very honored to have had lots of friends because it taught me a lot about life. It taught me what I look for in friendships, and I discovered I like people who are similar to me. I admire people who never care about what others say, people who walk their own path in life and dance to their own drums. People who stand up for themselves, people who are never afraid to say how they feel. People who would never allow someone to walk all over them, you know. People who know their worth! What I’ve come to realize is there aren’t many people like this, at least in Baltimore, or maybe I haven’t come across them in life yet. Whatever the case may be, I’m no longer looking for people who are similar to me. I’m just living my life.

Walking solo can be boring at times; however, loving myself makes it easier. The moment I decided to stop calling people first is the moment I stopped talking to a lot of people. As we know, life can get pretty busy; however, not busy enough to not call people you’re supposed to actually like. With that being said, life got better for me when I only focused on my son and myself, although my son is grown. No matter what obstacles I’ve faced in life, I always push myself to keep going. My motivation comes from within, along with books. Surrounding myself with things I like and love allows me to keep going each day, from cooking, reading, painting, and creating content. No matter how life goes, I’m a writer at heart first. From journaling when I was very young to writing my first fiction novel many years ago that I never finished, to writing a digital book and memoir many years later. Writing has always been my passion. Whatever the case may be, I continue to motivate myself each day.
